Stephanie was an accomplished ice figure skater. She took second place in the U.S. National Figure Skating Championship which qualified her for a position on the U.S. Figure Skating Team for the 1961 World Championship to be held in Prague. On the way to competetion, the aircraft carring the team, trainers, coaches and some family members, crashed at Brussels Belgium killing all on board. Her elder sister, Sharon, also a Cheyenne alumnus, accompanied her. (see also "IN MEMORIAM")

Stephanie was an accomplished figure skater having spent many years of her young life in training. She was an honor student and Homecoming Queen. In 1961, as a member of the U.S. figure skating team, she was traveling to Prague with the team to participate as a competitor in the World Championship in the womens singles division. On the way, Sabena Airlines, Flight 548, carrying the team, coaches, trainers, and some family members, crashed on approach to the Brussels, Belgium airport. All were killed, including Stephanie's sister Sharon. The World Championships were cancelled as a result.
My long association with the Broadmoor Wold Arena and Figure Skating Club permitted me to watch Stephanie mature into a wonderful young lady and accomplished skater. Her surviving mother has also passed. They are sorely missed by those who knew and loved them. (see also "famous Alumni")
